A collection of German marches, songs, ballads and horn signals from the Wars of Liberation (1813-15), all arranged to recreate the atmosphere of the battlefield and the soldier's life in the heroic struggle to free the German lands of Napoleonic domination.

 

Performers include the Bundeswehr's Heeresmusikkorps 300 Koblenz; Heeresmusikkorps 12 Veitshöchheim; Heeresmusikkorps 100 Hannover; the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin; and as a special touch, members of the Berliner Oratorien-Chor as 'Landwehr men.'

 

The CD is accompanied by a 24-page, color-illustrated booklet with German and English text and extensive notes on the Napoleonic Wars in Germany and the featured musical selections. The Prussians' Austrian, British and Swedish allies are not forgotten in this compilation, and even the French are represented!
