WW2 German Reichsarbeitsdienst (Labor Service) Officers' Cap. These are sometimes referred to as the 'Robin Hood' style of cap due to their design. The RAD was an interesting organization and it fought in combat operations in many many theatres of war - especially in Italy, the Eastern Front and even against British Airborne troops at Arnhem, where several units of the RAD were called into service and fought as infantry during this operation.
Most NCO and other ranks' caps are of pressed felt, but this one is made in a four-piece crowned heavy olive brown wool 'Uniformtuch' as is typical of officers caps. The quality of the hat is extremely good and it has the distinctive side air-vents, basket-weave aluminum piping with a dark wool brown cap band with a high quality Assmann-made, enameled RAD officers quality cap badge affixed. The cloth and enamel badge are as typical for a service cap as opposed to a dress cap made of Trikot with Bullion insignia. The lining is a golden cream four-piece artificial silk (Rayon) configuration with a high-quality leather headband. The cap shows only age toning and storage wear and is in excellent condition with no moth damage.
An excellent example of a very rare cap!
