A rare example of a little-known aspect of German military band music, this album presents a thundering rendition of the ceremonial tattoo of the Saxon Miners' Guilds, presented in a performance by the Musikkorps der Bergstadt Schneeberg conducted by Bergmusikdirektor Hermann Schröder.
Established in 1975, the Schneeburger Musikkorps has maintained the ancient traditions (complete with uniforms and rank insignia) of the 'Bergmänner' of the Erzgebirge region, and since 2001 it has been officially designated as the 'Landesbergmusikkorps Sachsen.'
The 'Sächsischer Bergmännischer Zapfenstreich' (presented here with snappy drill commands) is compiled from traditional miners' marches, fanfares and hymns, and concludes resoundingly with the 'Deutschlandlied' and the Saxon State Hymn 'Gott segne Sachsenland.'
Also featured in this compilation are twelve traditional miners' marches and a suite for winds based on music of the Erzgebirge.
