A collection of thundering Russian choral favorites, presented by the Red Army Choir and Band under the direction of Victor Fedorov, including soldiers' songs from Old Russia; songs of the Russian Civil War; songs of the 'Great Patriotic War;' and classic Russian folk songs.
Especially noteworthy selections in this compilation include a choral rendition of V. Agapkin's 1912 march Farewell of Slavyanka and a thunderously martial performance of The Brave Lads of the Don (also known as The Brave Don Cossacks), a cavalry song from Russia's war against Napoleon.
Recorded at the Mosfilm-Studios in 1994, this technically- and artistically superb album is not a rehash of earlier recordings released in the West from the 1950s through the 1970s. The CD includes a small but informative booklet with historical background notes on the featured selections as well as the performers.
