THE FIRST PERFORMANCE OF FREDERICK'S OWN MUSIC EVER RECORDED IN HIS HISTORIC MUSIC ROOM AT SANSSOUCI PALACE!
He was not merely one of the greatest military geniuses who ever lived, but also an accomplished composer and musician; this CD of world-premiere recordings presents seven sonatas for solo flute and basso continuo composed by Frederick II, “the Great” (1712–86), King of Prussia from 1740 to 1786.
These are the only performances of the Great King’s works ever recorded in the historic private royal music room of Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, Germany, where Frederick held nightly musical soirées from 1747 onward.
The CD recreates the sound of the king’s famous palace concerts in their original setting and with their original acoustics, using scrupulous copies of original instruments and utilizing the performance practices employed by Frederick and his chamber musicians.
