Scored for brass and kettledrums in authentic "Kavallerie" style, the carefully chosen selections featured here are performed by the virtuoso musicians of the "Trompeterkorps der 8. Husaren" (based at Buke, near Paderborn in Westphalia), directed by Antonius Wiethaup.Nothing about this CD is ordinary or commonplace. The sound achieved in these performances is remarkably "tight," snappy and strong, and the bandsmen perform these ancient compositions with an impeccable "textbook" precision that is overshadowed only by the youthful élan that they impart to every track. Cavalry marches in all their various 'work' tempos (such as Assembly, Trot, Gallop, Pace, etc.) are prominently featured, as are several extremely rare concert marches on cavalry themes, some of which are recorded here for the first time in over seventy-five years. In addition, numerous historic regimental horn calls and cavalry horn signals are presented, a bonus that will be appreciated by all serious aficionados of German martial music! The ensemble heard on this CD, the "Trompeterkorps der 8. Husaren," is itself as distinctive and unique as the quality of its performances. As a symbol of their dedication to authenticity, since 1971 the band's members have worn the Imperial-era uniform of the Prussian army's "Husaren-Regiment 'Kaiser Nikolaus II. von Russland' (1. Westfalisches) Nr. 8" - a regiment named for Tsar Nicholas II of all the Russias himself, who was related to Germany's Kaiser Wilhelm II by blood as well as by marriage - and they have maintained the musical traditions of this proud and aristocratic unit since the group was founded in 1949.The CD is accompanied by a lavishly illustrated, twenty-four page German-language booklet, and the technical quality of these sparkling 2010 recordings is nothing less than superb. The complete contents of this magnificent opus include:Paradepost der Preussischen Kavallerie (Trad.)Marsch der Finnländischen Reiterei im 30-jährigen Krieg AM III, 70 (Trad.)Regimentsruf 'Husaren Regiment Kaiser Nikolaus von Russland (1.
