A long overdue addition to the CD repertoire of East German military music, this CD features the Chorus of the Erich Weinert Ensemble, the Chorus and Central Band of the East German Army, the Chorus of the Guard Regiment Felix Dzerzhinsky and other performers in a rare compilation of the unique "Soldatenlieder" sung by the personnel of "the other German army." Reflecting strong Soviet influence, these pieces celebrate the "brotherhood" that supposedly prevailed between the East German NVA and its Soviet sponsors, while simultaneously proclaiming the internationalist NVA's own esprit de corps. Some of the melodies featured actually stem from the Red Army's own repertoire, but here they are sung to German lyrics!
